FRIDAY, 17 NOVEMBER 2006

The next in DWP’s series of Northern WoodHeat seminars on building partnerships and working together in order to maximise the opportunities presented by developing markets for Bioenergy will be held at the Gordon Hotel, Tomintoul on Friday 17 November 2006.  Experience elsewhere in Europe and in other UK sectors shows the importance of co-operative structures in achieving practical solutions to efficient woodfuel delivery and energy plant operation. We are therefore delighted that the speakers of the calibre of Asko Puhakka, North Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Finland, who will talk on developing entrepreneurship within the bioenergy sector; Dominik Röser, Finnish Forest Research Institute (METLA), who will give a European perspective, and our own home-grown Bob Yuill, SAOS, who will share his expertise on new generation co-operatives. In the afternoon by kind permission of the Crown Estates there will be a visit to the biomass boiler at the Glenlivet Estate Office. Shaun Mochan, Forest Research, will present the results of the Northern WoodHeat sourfelling trials at Cairn Daimh and Rebecca Carr, FC Woodfuel Officer for the Highlands and Islands, will tell us about the Scottish Biomass Support Scheme, the delivery mechanism for the £7.5M fund for bioenergy announced by Nicol Stephen, Scottish Energy Minister, at All Energy 2006.
